Albums I Procured in 2007:

December 27, 2007

Six Organs of Admittance - Shelter from the Ash:  Spaghetti Western music?  Yes please.  Seriously, this album is making my head spin with fantasies of gunslinging.
Juno OST:  Obviously the point of this album is to score Michael Cera a Grammy.  But seriously, his and Ellen Page's song is my favorite, followed by the only other two I listen to:  Sonic Youth's cover of "Superstar" and Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes."
The Beatles - Let it Be:  I had certain singles, but not "Get Back," which I desperately needed.  Also, come on.  I had a huge hole in my Beatles discography.
The Vines - Vision Valley:  My love for the Vines has grown exponentially this Fall, and I had to complete my collection.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Baby 81
:  I got this because of the awesomeness of "Howl" and because I wanted to see if it made my top 10 of the year.

Matt Pond PA - Last Light:  How'd this slip by?  Anyway, I've only listened once, but I remember it being more rocky than Matt Pond PA's other albums.
Beirut - The Flying Club Cup:  I love the other Beirut stuff I have, and decided last summer that I will become a Traveler so I can listen to Beirut.
Battles - Mirrored:  This album is incredible so far.  "Atlas" is appropriately a current favorite.
I'm Not There OST
:  A billion Dylan covers and the official release of Dylan's "I'm Not There."  Other highlights include most of the Highway 61 Revisited. stuff and the Sonic Youth cover.
Patrick Park - Everyone's in Everyone
:  Sara gave this to me.  Patrick Park is so difficult to find illegally.

Brazos - A City Just as Tall EP:  Thanks to Katie for this EP, which was made by a guy in his room.  Awesome.
Radical Face - Ghost:  Too good for Leahanne, this album flows so well from each song to the next.  I still haven't finished it though.
Tarkio - I Guess I Was Hoping for Something More:  Colin Meloy's old band is more country-ish, but so far I love it all.
Tarkio - Sea Songs for Landlocked Sailors EP:  I finally found Tarkio's discography, and the country-ness feels perfect for Fall.
Eddie Vedder - Into the Wild OST
:  The songs are mostly short, but they're all beautiful and haunting.  And Into the Wild is brills.

Matt Costa - Songs We Sing:  Seriously, Matt Costa is up my alley, as it were.  See two lines below:
The Hives - The Black and White Album:  My garage phase is clearly not over, and the Hives are as great as ever.
Matt Costa - The Elasmosaurus EP:  Um, it's named after a semi-esoteric dinosaur, so of course I'm in.  Little did I know, I really like Matt Costa, hence my followup acquisition, his LP.
Islands - Return to the Sea:  I could have sworn I already owned this.  Anyway, thought I'd give it a look-see.
Fionn Regan - The End of History
:  I came across this looking for music to use in our project for Dr. Brooks' class, and it is beautiful, folky goodness that just so happens to completely apply.

Radiohead - In Rainbows:  Um, duh.  Greatest entertainment experiment of the past arbitrary time period.
Robert Plant and Alison Kraus - Raising Sand:  Glory.  Of course, Zeppelin alumni are wont to be glorious.  That sentence sounds like one of those "the quick brown fox" linguistic sentences or a mnemonic or something.
Babyshambles - Shotter's Nation:  Obvi this was a must-download for me, but I've only given it one listen so far
Augie March - Strange Bird:  "This Train Will be Taking No Passengers" is a freaking awesome poem about civilization taking us all to Hell!  I'm pretty sure my favorite bands are the ones whose songs are written by English majors.  Colin Meloy and Glenn Richards should totally make movies together.  And write books.  And be my friends.  Michael Chabon would probably fit right in.
Augie March - Sunset Studies
:  I haven't gotten around to this album yet, mostly because I'm trying to save some Augie March so I don't overload and ruin a great thing.

September 30, 2007

Once OST:  Phenomenal.  I like it way better than the Frames.  "Falling Slowly" is glorious, though I don't dislike a single song.
Across the Universe OST:  "Dear Prudence" remains a highlight, though the entire album is beautiful
Iron and Wine - The Shepherd's Dog:  I've only listened to a bit of this one
Jose Gonzalez - In Our Nature:  His main selling point is his hilariously common name, but I love what I've heard so far
Band of Horses - Cease to Begin:  I love their sound, but I can see how others wouldn't.  Their cover of "The End's Not Near" is better than the original in my opinion, and I've enjoyed their latest album as much as the first.

September 1, 2007

Augie March - Moo You Bloody Choir:  Amazing.  I downloaded them whenever ago, but I am just now listening and love it
1990s - Cookies:  This was a "You should download this" download, and I always do what they tell me to
Pulp Fiction OST:  When I was home one weekend, Pulp Fiction was on and I watched my favorite part, the dinner with Uma and Travolta.  By the time I was singing "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon," I knew what my next download would be.
The Cloud Room - The Cloud Room:  More nasal voices for nasal voice-lovers like me!  I think I'll start a club.
M. Ward - Transistor Radio:  I've been searching far and wide for illegal downloads of M. Ward, and I finally got an old album

August 17, 2007

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - Broom:  As if the band name wasn't a big enough draw, the songs remind me of a novelty act
The Honorary Title - Scream and Light up the Sky:  Love it so far.  Check it out.
The Sea and Cake - Everybody:  Nice, light, Clientele-ishness.  It's like soft rock for young people.  I wonder what Zoe Bonet's up to?
White Rabbits - Fort Nightly:  Don't remember how I heard about them, and I haven't even listened yet
Blue-Eyed Son - West of Lincoln:  First I was drawn in by the band name, but I actually like the songs too.  Surf rock is a fun idea.

August 6, 2007

The Clientele - Strange Geometry:  I really like the Clientele, though others have described them, nicely, as soporific
Okkervil River - The Stage Names:  The newest Okkervil River was tempting enough to give a few listens, but I still haven't gotten around to it
The Coral - Roots & Echoes:  The latest Coral album was a must even though I only have their first one...must remedy that
The Thrills - Teenager:  The new Thrills album is currently only released in Europe/UK, but I can't get enough of their Irish glory
The Lucksmiths - Naturaliste:  Indie pop is still a strange idea to me, but I do so love it.  Plus, Australian bands rule (Wolfmother, the Vines)!
