#10. George-Michael Bluth
Arrested Development |
 |
Michael Cera is a gift sent
from Heaven, and his George-Michael Bluth is one of the best acted
characters in television history. Also, I don't think it's jumping
the gun to say he is Canada's greatest achievement. Anyway,
George-Michael always lands his jokes, and I love watching his
relationship with his cousin Maeby. The greatest happiness I
experienced on the day of the last AD broadcast was the wedding!
"Talk you off? Talk you off what, Pop-pop?"

#9. Audrey Liddell
Dawson's Creek |
 |
Audrey is by far my favorite
character on the Creek, although doing the Grams voice is hours of fun
by itself. But Audrey came to us in Season 5, by the time that the
five main characters had all become unlikable, and she was a breath of
fresh air, rational and relaxed and generally a good person. Then
she went crazy, and it was a meltdown to rival Lohan. And I loved
every minute of it.
"Will you stop? Nobody believes that you
don't adore me." |
 |
#8. Al Swearengen
Deadwood |
 |
Deadwood's BMOC, Al Swearengen
spends the series seeking political advantage while maintaining the
status quo (his position as de facto leader) through the impending
annexation of the camp. He is a master strategist, brilliantly
preparing his assets and constantly calculating his next move.
"Here's my counteroffer to your counteroffer:
Go fuck yourself!" |
 |
#7. Laura Roslin
Battlestar Galactica |
 |
Laura Roslin has to be the
greatest fictional president, right? Sure, there's Bartlett over
on the West Wing, but has he ever had to deal with the genocide of
humanity? No? What about airlocking cylons? That's
what I thought. Roslin is both immensely compassionate and
irrationally aggressive at times, making her a true enigma, and while I
often disapprove of her political decisions, I could never stop loving
her.
"I don't make suggestions, Mr. Baltar. If
I want to toss a baby out of an airlock, I'd say so." |

#6.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard
Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep
Space Nine |
 |
The best Trek captain no matter
what anyone says, Picard is a man of many interests: Shakespeare,
music, archaeology, language, even math, all of which lead to some great
episodes where he gets to explore something on his own. The best,
of course, is his love of the 1920s and detective stories, which leads
to his playing fictional detective Dixon Hill on the holodeck every once
in a while. He is the
anchor of TNG, connected personally to each crew member and most
supporting characters, specifically Q, Vash, Gowron, and the Borg.
"Let us make sure history never forgets the
name Enterprise." |
 |
#5. Tina Fey
Saturday Night Live |
 |
This is for the Tina Fey
character who hosted Weekend Update on SNL, my favorite WU anchor ever
and the reason to tune in to SNL for a few years.
"At the request of the Catholic Church, a
three-day sex orgy to be held near Rio de Janeiro was cancelled last
Friday. So instead I spent the weekend cleaning my apartment."
"A recent study announced that 52% of all teens who sign a virginity
pledge recant them within twelve months. If I'm on my game."

 |
#4. Captain Malcolm Reynolds
Firefly |
 |
Malcolm Reynolds is an amazing
captain who treats his crew like family. But the best part about
him (and the show) is that he makes the tough decisions sometimes,
willing to take huge sacrifices for the greater good (I can't help but
think about Deathly Hallows when I write that).
"Mercy is the mark of a great man. Guess
I'm just a good man. Well, I'm all right." |
 |
#3. Julie Cooper-Nichol-Maiden
Name
The O.C. |
 |
Julie Cooper has long been one
of the best draws on television, and she became the sole reason to watch
The O.C. during the fairly dreadful third season. But over the
course of the entire show, she went from unidimensional bitch to complex
survivor, but never lost the best part of her: her evil and/or
biting wit.
"Luke's here to defrag my harddrive."
|
 |
#2. Stephen T. Colbert, DFA
The Daily Show, The Colbert Report |
 |
Stephen Colbert has quickly won
me over, in less than two years racking up enough hilarious recurring
gags to impress the cast of Arrested Development, my favorites being the
picture of the US flag draped over him, his fear of bears, his obsession
with Charlene, and my favorite part, the Better Know a District
interviews.
"Keep those letters coming, folks. An
unpaid intern skims each one." |
 |
#1. Veronica Mars
Veronica Mars |
 |
Veronica Mars is probably the
most badass teenager in television history, fearless and dedicated in
her missions, but most importantly, always equipped with a witty retort.
Further, she is extremely loyal, both to her father and her close
friends--but getting to be a close friend is a task worthy of Hercules.
"A pony?!" |
