A whole year of sporadic updates!
4-18-06, 4:20pm
Let's kick this thing off right.
The ten things I learned the last
week (and a half):
-- When I say that I'll update my website
later in the week, it means that I probably won't.
-- College Station has UPN?! What?! When did that happen?
-- There's exactly 2 weeks of classes left. And I still have five
tests to take.
-- I could probably blow off every one of those tests and still pass.
So tempting...
-- Brandon doesn't keep his Veronica Mars episodes on his laptop.
Good to know. In the future, we'll just steal the external hard drive.
-- My parents don't really care for the idea of me giving two years of my
life to a good cause. But I don't really care for what they care for.
-- Downtown Bryan is both artsy cool and scary as hell at night.
-- Probably half of my extended family could be classified as white trash.
Apparently, one of my (younger!) cousins had a baby... I didn't know she was
even pregnant. Oh yeah, and she's the step daughter of my aunt that lives
in a trailer.
-- DC++ sucks now.
-- You should always appreciate the time you get to spend hanging out with
your friends, even when they piss you off.
Anyway, that's about it. I
have learned nothing else, and that's including all of the physics and anatomy
that I've been stuffing my brain with since Sunday.
There is one interesting thing that I read on the Colbert Report livejournal this week. We all know that the greatest threat to America today is bears, yes? Well, they brought up the fact that Colbert calls O'Reilly "Papa Bear." An indication of just how amazing the satire on that show is.
There are about 6 other things I should be doing right now instead of this, so I suppose I'll go do them now. Oh yeah, dinner. That makes 7.
4-9-06, whenever.
Things I've learned this week:
-- Brandon can talk to you online, yet still be
halfway asleep. Don't let his feigned alertness fool you.
-- Eating pizza with a fork is stupid. It's so much more difficult than
the normal way. Why would you even bother?
-- College Station's traffic is easily doubled on parents weekend and I don't
like that.
-- No matter how frustrating a class is, it always has the capacity to become
even more frustrating.
-- Veronica Mars episodes get better with the second watching.
-- So do Arrested Development episodes.
-- Keane and Matt Pond PA are quite possibly the best bands to listen to while
you're studying.
-- Quarters in college are like cigarettes in prison. When you're relying
on the availability of quarters to do your laundry, their value goes way up.
And it only gets worse when the change machine isn't working.
-- Blockbuster has no power anymore. Without late fees, we can just keep
the movie as long as we want. Suckers.
-- The system that I came up with to rank my movies, while pretty awesome, is
not as easy as I thought. And it's taking longer too.
Don't have time to write much more, as I have a test in about 9 hours. Maybe I'll update again sometime this week, since I don't have any other tests this week.
3-31-06, 10:08pm
Yay for wasting time! I
should be diligently studying for the English test that is sitting (still in its
envelope... I ain't no cheater!) just to the right of my computer. But who
has time for that when there's a website to update?
We just got back from signing our lease at University Commons. We're all super-excited, and if any of you decide to catch a bus to College Station anytime soon, we'll go get a tour of it so you can see a model of what our beautiful new apartment will look like.
Sara told me about this quiz thing and we did it together today. It was just funny for the most part, but eerily fitting at times. Everyone should do it! I think it will work especially well with Ryan's, since his emo music matches the blackness of his heart.
Ok, here's what you do. Open your music player on your computer (if you don't have one, you suck and can't play) and make sure it's on shuffle. For each question, press the next song button and use the song title as the answer to the question. Then, just for fun, put up your favorite line from that song.
Here's mine:
How am I feeling today?
If It Were Up To Me -- Rooney
"That we work as one, like the Jackson 5 and the Temptations." (Sara know
what I mean, eh, roomie?)
Will I get far in life?
Rain City -- Turin Brakes
"As I feel my way through the century, as I slowly turn to house dust."
(Poetic, but not very promising.)
How do my friends see me?
Alice Childress -- Ben Folds Five
"And say there's good in nearly everyone, just give them all a chance." (I kinda
like this one... is that bad?)
Where will I get married?
As Long As You're Mine -- Wicked Soundtrack
"I need help believing you're with me tonight." (That says nothing about
where, but oh well.)
What is my best friend's theme song?
Consequence -- Incubus
"You blink and you miss a beat, keep one of your eyes open at all times."
What is the story of my life?
Wonderful -- Wicked Soundtrack
"I was merely blown here by the winds of chance."
What was high school like?
Scars and Stitches -- Guster
"And dot your I's and cross your T's, nothing was everything to me." (This one
matched pretty well, actually.)
How can I get ahead in life?
Move On -- Jet
"It's such a waste to always look behind you"
What is the best thing about me?
11am -- Incubus
"You're always first when no one's on your side." (Yeah, I tried, and I
couldn't find a thing that matched the question...)
How is today going to be?
You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' -- Righteous Brothers
"'Cause baby, something beautiful's dyin'" (Great...)
What is in store for this weekend?
Smile Like You Mean It -- The Killers
"Looking back at sunsets on the Eastside, we lost track of time."
What song describes my parents?
I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth --
Fallout Boy
"I'm hopelessly hopeful, that you're just hopeless enough, but we never had it
at all." (Geez...)
What song described my grandparents?
King of New Orleans (acoustic) -- Better Than Ezra
"It's easier, to let it slip out of your mind." (Ha!)
How is my life going?
Caught by the River -- Doves
"Don't let it come apart, don't want to see you come apart."
What song will they play at my funeral?
I Think I Love You -- cover by Less Than Jake
"I’m afraid that I’m not sure of, a love there is no cure for." (Wha...?
Sara says someone is going to admit their unrequited love to me at my funeral...
boooring!)
How does the world see me?
Andy, You're a Star -- The Killers
"Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah" (Hahahahahaha)
Will I have a happy life?
Out From Under -- Incubus
"There is a fist pressing against anyone who thinks something compelling."
(Interesting...)
What do my friends really think of me?
With a Little Help from My Friends -- The Beatles
"I get high with a little help from my friends." (I see how it is...)
Do people secretly lust after me? (Do we
even have to ask? We all know they're knocking down my door.)
Miracle -- Foo Fighters
"I've been losing sleep, please come to me, tonight." (See, what'd I tell
you?)
How can I make myself happy?
Photograph -- Weezer
"'Cause everybody wants some hope, something they can barely know."
What should I do with my life?
Hey Now Girl -- Phantom Planet
"A winter chill next to a spring romance, I stopped you just to say it, hey now
girl." (So apparently what I should do with my life is either be a bitch
or chase after a bitch... hm... Katie, are you available?)
Will I ever have children?
Daddy's Little Defect -- Sugarcult
"So don't don't don't make a sound, your father's around to play with your
head." (Not only am I going to have kids, but I'm going to royally screw
them up, too!)
What is some good advice?
Hakuna Matata -- The Lion King Soundtrack
"It means no worries for the rest of your days." (Yay!)
What is my signature dancing song?
On the Mend -- Foo Fighters
"Close your eyes and stay a while, to take me where you go." (I don't
dance. I guess it shows.)
What do I think my current theme song is?
Everything Will Be Alright -- The Killers
"Everything will be alright." (Yeah, sounds good)
What does everyone else think my current theme
song is?
Summerhouse -- Better Than Ezra
"Missus showed up, to I.D. the body, then shed a tear as she hid a smile."
(Who do you people think I am?)
What type of men/women (*wink*) do I like?
When You Notice the Stripes -- The Shins
"Hope it's right when you die, old and bony." (YSHML!)
All done. Quite a bit of those songs came from The Killers, actually. I think that says something about me. Possible something about the violent killing spree I'll be going on the next time someone makes fun of the way I say 'Aww...' Nevermind, I've said too much.
I'm off to watch The Royal Tenenbaums with the gang. So, good night and good luck. Hope you still respect me in the morning.
3-31-06, 12:12am
Well, it seems now that my website isn't a semi-annual publication, but a monthly issue. I'm moving up in the world.
This week has been another hellish week of multiple tests. Three are done, and one was turned into a take home exam so I'm stubbornly putting it off until Saturday.
Ok, so Sara told me about this thing that she and her friends do on their blogs, and I'm introducing it now on my website. Hopefully it'll make me update more often. (Hah, who am I kidding?)
Things I've learned this week:
-- It's more important to be artsy than to
live somewhere artsy. (See Brandon's soon-to-come update for more info)
--It's next to impossible to get myself motivated to do my online Physics
homework when there's a good book to read.
--Showing friends movies that they've never seen is almost as good as watching
them for the first time all over again.
--My iPod might be sick.
--When computers are not working and roommates are annoying, there's really only
one solution. Kill two birds with one stone and throw one at the other.
--Somehow a train station, a dollar movie theater, and a coffee shop are perfect
together.
--Some people can study for an entire week for a test and still think that
Glutamine is 'Gurakine.' Stupidity always amazes me.
--Veronica is too photogenic for her own good. I could hardly find enough
embarrassing pictures to make it worthwhile.
--Skirts on a windy day = very bad idea. And yet I decide to disregard
this when I'm getting dressed in the morning. Stupidity always amazes me.
--Something as simple as finding a fourth roommate can take forever and a day,
cause a whole lot of stress, keep you guessing and yet can still work out
perfectly at the last minute.
Yay! Everyone should do this. But make it funnier than mine. Otherwise I won't read it.
So now we have a new roommate. Didn't get decided until tonight about half an hour ago. And we're signing tomorrow. Good stuff. Her name is Sharon Chadwell. I fully expect you all to stalk her and find out all the relevant information we need.
Ok, I'm boring and it's time to watch Veronica Mars, since College Station doesn't support that wild liberal TV station, UPN. Later, bitches!
2-29-06, 10:39pm
I am so delusional right now.
Story time, boys and girls.
Once there was a young girl named Fovea Capitis. She was a triple threat
and a budding starlet on the verge of her big breakthrough. She wanted
nothing more than to be just like her idol, Glabella. But who is she
kidding, right? Then one day, Fovea Capitis met this guy named Trochanter
(the greater, not the lesser), and became all slutty and stuff. Let's just
say she touched his Intertrochanteric crest more than once, if you know what I
mean. Well, we all know how these things go. Pretty soon, she had a
Patella in the oven. Her Arcuate Line grew and grew, and nine months later
a couple of twins popped out. They were named Medial malleolus and Lateral
malleolus. And so, although her career was as deader than a Tuber calcanei,
she lived happily ever after in her white trash trailer.
Story loosely based on the life and times of Britney R. Spears.
This is how I justify updating my website on the night before the anatomy practical. Believe it or not, this is an actual story I came up with in my mind to help remember some of the markings. Call me crazy. Oh, and fun trivia. My favorite bone markings are the Linea aspera and the Sustentaculum tali. Say them out loud. You'll see why.
Ok, enough of things that none of you know/care about.
Happy Mardi Gras everyone! Did everyone flash the floats to get their beads? ... no? Oh. Me neither.
So... everyone should post what they're giving up for Lent. I'm giving up Catholicism.
I think that's an old Brandon joke. Oh well.
Oh wow, how much do I love Scrubs. So much. By the way, best line from tonight's episodes:
Elliot: JD, I really don't
wanna do this. Can't we just go home, and put on our PJs and watch "Grey's
Anatomy"?
JD: Oh, I do love that show. It's like they've been watching our lives and
just... putting them on TV.
I laughed for hours.
Our neighbor just came in and told us our room is the most awesome room ever. Yep, that's right. We're awesome.
So I think I've found the topic for my research next year finally, though it's not set in stone because I have to see if it's actually a feasible idea first. But it has to deal with using bacteria to transfer antiviral RNAi to fight a persistent infection of Theiler's virus, the animal model of Multiple Sclerosis. I don't know if it's been done before, but I can't find anything on it, so it's looking good. If it works, it'll be very exciting. If not... I have no idea if I'll even be able to figure out something else to do. So we'll see.
Anyway, Colbert is over now, and I have to get back to bones. Good night and good luck.
2-17-06, 3:48pm
First off, I have to say that Daniel from Project Runway is probably the hottest man alive. More on that later.
So yay! The first update of the new year! Ok, I know, it's about a month and a half too late, and I can feel your scorn already. But I'm just going to accept it and move on.
So today, I walk out of my Animal
Science class, still half asleep because it's Friday (and I was hungover) and
see something a little strange. Outside of the Horticulture Building,
there's normally a patch of dying grass with the occasional extremely macho
showoffs playing frisbee when it's warm
enough.
Today, however, the testosterone throwdown was replaced by a flock of pink
plastic flamingos. About 200 of them. Apparently it's a tradition
here at A&M, every spring, to bring out these flamingos and put them outside the
Horticulture Building. Who knew? I'm almost tempted to say that A&M
has too many traditions when no one can remember them all... but then I might be
lynched.
Brandon just informed me that I update less than most magazines. And I think quarterly updates are pompous and pretentious, which is exactly the direction I'm going with this site. So I think I'm gonna make it my new thing. Along with getting drunk every night.
Tonight was a fun night. We all went out to dinner at Johnny Carino's, then decided to take pictures all night. All of us girls except Sara got dressed up and Sara did our hair and makeup. We took random pictures and laughed and made fun of the people across the hall from us. They deserved it, don't worry.
I miss my camera. It's been missing ever since Christmas break, and I can't find it anywhere. So if any of you see a renegade camera, please bring it back to me. Don't listen to its babblings about me beating it, it's a little crazy sometimes. Oh, and if there's a pink Vans sticker with it, grab that too. And keep a close watch. It's a tricky bugger.
Speaking of cameras, I am
definitely starting a picture of the day book as soon as I get mine back.
Regardless of whether Ryan says I'm a copycat or not (I definitely am), I think
it's worth it just to have one. And what Ryan failed to mention, is that
he stole the entire idea of putting them in a journal in the first place from
Sara. She gave permission to Brandon to use her idea, but you are a
completely different story. She doesn't even like you (who does?).
And if you use the idea without a full and embellished acknowledgement at the
beginning, she's gonna sue you... in England. And if you don't come on my
show to tell me why you're such a horrible person, you are a coward, sir.
I do agree with Ryan about the Fox people. How can they screw up so bad, so many times, so consistently? You admitted your mistake and took back Family Guy, now just pick up the pieces of all the other wonderful shows you crushed and put them back on the air again. My newfound love for Arrested Development (AD, to those in the know-- we know, we know) just when it's ending has spurned a new hatred for all of the Fox people. I have a dreamscicle that one day amazing television will get more recognition than stupid reality shows.
Except for Project Runway. Quality or no, I can't deny my love of that show, and I make no apologies for watching every moment I can. My hatred for Santino-Bantino grows just as my love for the really really really really really really really ridiculously good-looking Daniel increases. I want a hott Daniel of my own to make my clothes. I want a Tim Gun of my own, to share with me his infinite wisdom. And I want a Heidi Klum of my own to follow me around, look pregnant, and say "You're out" to all of the people I hate. Who doesn't want that life? Ok, Ryan might not, but that's just because he's probably in love with someone he hates and can't accept it.
More on the television front, I've recently caught up to Battlestar Galactica, which makes me sound more nerdy than usual, if that's possible. I like it though. It's no Firefly, surely, but it's an acceptable substitute. Except that they just killed off one of my favorite characters. I cried. Don't judge me.
Oh, and Brandon decided that we
should all rank our favorite art forms, a serious idea spun off from a joke on
Vernoica's xanga I believe. Unfortunately for her, nude pictures didn't
make the final list. So here's the list that he came up with: Literature,
Movies, Music, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Television, Theater. And
my rankings are:
-- Photography
-- Literature
-- Theater
-- Movies
-- Music
-- Painting
-- Television
-- Sculpture
Surprising how low Television ranks, seeing as I watch way too much of it for my own good. But anyway, it's interesting to do, and I think everyone (including Brandon) should post their own ranking of which they like best.
So now that you have your assignments, I'm gonna go get some sleep. Expect more updates soon (meaning within the next quarter) including the top movies of 2005 and other such stuff.
And to continue my blatant copycatting (??) of Brandon, I'm going to do this:
P.S. I'm right behind you now Charlene.... you'll never be alone again.
P.P.S. Bonus points to anyone who can pick out every one of the references in this update to my new love, The Colbert Report
P.P.P.S. Katie, I thought you liked it when I called you baby...
11-30-05, 10:28pm
Just a quick update. I just finished putting in all the pictures for the below update, but I figured I'd write a little something while I was at it.
A sad thing has happened. Yesterday, my fish, Prozac died. He'd been sick for a while, so we knew it was coming, but it was still sad. He lived a long happy life in his little bowl and we'll miss him.
On a brighter note, I don't have a test on Friday anymore. Turns out, I had one of the two highest grades in the class going into the final test, so I don't have to take it. Surprised the hell out of me this morning, but that's good seeing as this makes my week about 10 times less stressful. Yay.
Right now, I'm making a mask for the masquerade formal this Saturday, and it's turning out really well. I'm excited. Ok, Colbert Report time. He's my new hero. Later gators!
11-28-05, 4:53pm
So, it's time again for my monthly entry. I really shouldn't be writing this because I have about a billion and one other things to be doing, mainly studying. My weeklong studying extravaganza has begun, the first day's activities involving finding a secluded spot in the library and getting intimately acquainted with integrins and lignins... if you know what I mean. Don't worry, I used a myelin sheath.
Anyway, the main reason I wanted to update was that I found this cool face recognition site somewhere while I was browsing the i-am-bored.com (cool site, look it up). You upload a picture of your face, basically, and it shows you which celebrities you look most like. So, just for fun, I decided to put in our Chrismukkah picture from last year to see what would come up. The results were, in a word, scrumptrilescent.

Okay, so going from left to right...
Unfortunately Ryan was just too
fugly to be recognized by the face recognition program.

Steph's closest match was Celine Dion. An odd match, but strangely fitting. Near... far... wherever you are...

Veronica's is quite perfect, I
must say... Katie Holmes.
It's destiny.

Then our lovely little Katie there... she got Angelina Jolie. You know if it weren't for the red eye, it'd be a pretty nice match. (don't kill me, Katie...)

Brandon, in all his sexiness, got Colin Farrel.

And this is what Brandon will look like with no hair.

I must say I was rather disappointed with my results. I got Frida Kahlo. Yes, so flattering, isn't it? I can hear Ryan now, "Yeah, that looks about right." Shut up, Fugly.

Ah, yes, Kistenmacher. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw his result. If only Mao Zedong had chin scruff too...

And last, but never least, Katherine, who looks like Deborah Kerr. Graceful, classy, yeah, yeah, yeah. But, wait. There was a second result... and it was...

James Hetfield. You'd think they were twins or something, it's creepy.
And that's all folks. Everyone should go check out this site, it's really cool to put pictures in and see who resembles what celebrity. Have fun!
10-21-05, 11:39 am
Wow, I can't believe this thing still exists. What's more, I can't believe someone hasn't hacked in and changed everything yet.
Yes, yes, my adoring public, I have come back to update again. I'm back in Friendswood for the day, so I thought I'd go ahead and put something up here and see if anyone noticed.
Friendswood is as boring as ever. I'm sure that's significant for some reason.
Man, I'm really rusty.
A&M is as fun as it ever was, even with the closed minded people putting a slight damper on things. McFadden is great, and we even have a hall mascot of sorts. A girl on my floor is working with the guide dog organization and she's raising a labradoodle puppy for wheelchair assistance. The picture on the right is almost exactly what he looks like. We call him the Wookie. He's so adorable and I want a puppy of my own now. What? In Katie's dorm last year, some girl did it and never got caught, why can't I?
Speaking of pets, Prozac has been sick lately, but he's looking better now. Had to clean the bowl with boiling water to get some sort of algae out. Now he's looking better and at least swimming around the bowl. Well, since the last time I checked.
This is boring. Now I know why I don't update. I have nothing interesting to say.
So, recently, Dr. Brooks took an interest in me for some reason and told me to come to his office to discuss what I was gonna do in my life. For those of you who don't know, he picks out people he thinks are smart and helps them get into grad schools and whatnot. Anyway, we talked and he told me that to get into whatever med/vet school I wanted, I needed to do the Honors Fellows program. Which is basically a year of research and a thesis at the end. So I went and talked to the Honors office, and apparently, to be even eligible for it, I need to take 6 hours of honors hours spring semester. And then to continue with it, I have to take 6 hours every semester after that along with the 17 other hours of courses per semester I had planned. So it pretty much shot my whole plan I had for the rest of college. It's still possible to graduate on time, it just means that I'm gonna have to work my ass off to do it. And I'm going to. Why is it that I feel a mental breakdown coming on?
But
other than that, my life is pretty stress free. My hell week of 4 tests is
over and the exams have trickled down to about 1 a week. I'm reading
Ender's Game, which is awesome. Genetics lab still sucks, but at least
we're getting out closer to on time now. We're going to be carving
pumpkins when I get back tonight.
We've been going to a lot of
lectures lately for various reasons. The first one was on China and US
relations, which was alright, even though we had to leave early and didn't get
to hear the questions portion because the speakers went too long. Then we
had one on the racial implications behind Hurricane Katrina. The room was
absolutely packed, which surprised me, even though Dr. Brooks had offered it as
extra credit for his class. It was really great. They had a lady
there who had been in Loyola's University hospital there when Katrina hit and
they were stranded for about a week with little to no resources. What I
found most crazy, is that the government offices and the media were all saying
that the hospital was evacuated at the beginning of the week, when the whole
hospital was full of refugees and patients. It's really crazy to think
about.
Things I should be doing right now
instead of updating:
--Doing laundry
--Working on my MCB Problem Set (heh, Merry Christmas, Bitch)
--Sleeping
--Trying to find a subject for my honors thesis
--Reading Ender's Game
--Eating, I haven't had lunch yet
--Playing pointless games on i-am-bored.com
--Solving world hunger and promoting global peace
Oh, one more thing before I go do one of those things. I was thinking about something Dr. Brooks said in class the other day... about how the slasher movies in the 80s were a subconscious response to the increase in technology and a reflection of our need to remind ourselves that we are human. That we were afraid of being absorbed by the technology and becoming machines ourselves. And so, as he said, what better way to remind yourself of your humanity than to cut and bleed? So I was thinking, and I talked with Brandon a little bit, of how the psychological horror films of the 90s and 2000s fit in with that theory. Things like Saw, Blair Witch, The Ring, etc. I thought I'd share, cause I found it interesting to think about, even though I have no real idea what could be behind it.
Anyway, I'm hungry so I'm gonna go get food. Maybe I'll update later. Maybe.
5-15-05, 4:23 pm
Yay! I'm the first one to update since coming back to Fwood!
Things are beautiful now that it's
summer. Nothing to worry about (except maybe getting a job... but eh) and
hours upon hours of sleep. And of course hanging out with my amazing
friends.
I have to do laundry and our dryer is broken, though. So that should be fun. I either have to hand dry all of my clothes (read: hours with a hair dryer) or go to a laundromat and sit there for a couple of hours. Either way it sucks. And apparently we can't do anything about the broken dryer without re-wiring the entire house. Hm, so that should be a fun summer project.
We
watched 'Alien Planet', a Discovery channel thing. It was very
interesting, but didn't go nearly as in-depth as I wanted it to. It
described a lot of things on this made up planet, but didn't go into the
background nearly enough. Like they didn't even describe why these alien
life-forms would look the way they did or what environmental cues caused them to
develop their characteristics. It was sort of frustrating, but
interesting, nonetheless. Our discussions about dark matter and the
universe was much more exciting though.
I
do say we watch more Discovery channel specials. Some of them are much
better than the one we saw last night. I definitely want to catch the
Science of Star Wars one. And looking on the website, it is, in fact, 3
different episodes each night. And there's even one entitle "Space
Cowboys" (Brando).
Other things that look interesting from the Discovery website... Spies Above, a special about how the CIA used satellites to spy from space and how those images changed history. Three Minutes to Impact, a special about how scientists are using craters on the Earth's surface to predict future collisions. On a side note, I am a complete nerd.
Anyway, enough for now. I'm going to go work on some other stuff around the site.
5-1-05, 2:38am
Well, I promised an update after my Micro test, so here it is.
First of all, I had noticed that none of the pictures that are links over on the left have Ryan in them. Maybe if he wasn't such an emo-boy in all of the pictures I have of him, I might have used one. Hm... no... even then, I don't think so. I think it's just kind of depressing to have to look at that every time you come to my site...
Now, on to the important part of the update. I'm still sick, although I'm slowly getting better. The medicine from Beutel helped a lot. And I got Katie sick and she called me a bitch. But she's too stubborn to go get medicine, so I don't even care.
I've been such a bum lately
though. I've seriously skipped 5 of my PoliSci classes in the past 3 weeks
or so (although for one of those I was stuck in the health center so that
shouldn't really count... right?). My room's a
mess. And I haven't done much of anything for the (illegal) final I have
on Tuesday. Ugh.
That's all been overshadowed,
however, by all the awesome movies we've seen recently, mostly older ones.
I think I am seriously in love with Sunset Blvd. It's going on the Top 100
for sure, as soon as I find the time to work on it. Which should be
soon... ish. I'll have to get a list from Brandon of all the movies we've
seen recently. Here's the few I remember though...

King Kong. Not as cheesy as
I thought it was going to be. In fact, quite good. Especially the
gorilla and the dinosaurs... so realistic! Okay, maybe not really.
But it is really something that you have to see once, just so you can say you've
seen it. Because it is such a part of American cinema, I guess.
Movie legend, you might say.

In the Heat of the Night. I
was surprised by this one when I went to northside one day to hang out with
Brando. We started off watching just to hear him say, "They call me Mr.
Tibbs!" I think, but it ended up being very good after all. Not sure if
this one is going on the Top 100 yet, but we'll see.

The Maltese Falcon. So
crazy! I had no idea what was going on for half the movie. Good film
noir/detective material for our new movie.
Sunset Blvd. Again, loved it. I really want to see them make a really good black and white movie like this again. The acting was great and the movie itself was just so beautiful. If you haven't seen this one, go see it, and then maybe we can still be friends.
Well, that's all I can think of now.
Oh, something interesting that happened today... we went to Barnes and Noble (surprise, surprise) and I looked up the book that was on The Daily Show the other night. It's called "One Nation Under Therapy" by some girl, and it looked really interesting. And it is. It's all about the new trend of "therapism" in the US and all of the absurdities that come about because of it. It talked about how psychological journals are now assigning Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder to people who have seen the Exorcist or someone who's been in a mild car accident as if they had been a victim of the Holocaust. And then it touched on how it's been incorporated into the school system, so that games like tag are being thrown out and they're paying people to sit around and weed out questions with "bad imagery" from standardized tests. Very interesting stuff. I didn't get past the preface, though, cause Katie had to go be diligent and work on a paper or something (psh). I'm definitely going back to read more on that, though.
I can't make EasyMac, how sad is that? It keeps coming out too watery and tastes weird. I must be retarded.
Enough of updating. Don't expect another update until after finals, though, because I intend on being at least somewhat productive the entire week and a half I have left of this semester. You can just deal with it.
Okay, g'night!
4-25-05, 10:56pm
Well, now I see why the cold
medicine was so expensive... it works. For a while anyway. But
it's
much better than coughing all day. But speaking of my being a sickie
still, all of you might want to buy stock in Kleenex soon. I must have
gone through a box and a half of Kleenex today, and now I have to go buy more.
I'll buy all the Kleenex in College Station if I have to. I almost feel
like their cigarettes and I'm addicted or something. Or crack. Maybe
I'll never stop using Kleenex, ever. And you guys will have to stage an
intervention and send me to Kleenex rehab... I'm going to stop now before I go
on some illness-induced, mad rant about nothing.
I looked today and I have 07 meals left. Thought that was worth mentioning.
So I've decided that I sound like a man now. My voice is totally gone. And on that note, I think this is very fitting...
So does this mean I have to be with Katie too?
Boo. Anyway, I don't know anything about Gambit, so I don't really know
how well it fits at all, but I've heard Brandon/Ryan/Katie rave about him, so
I'm sure they'll tell me that I could never live up to his awesomeness.
But apparently I'm a pimp. Good then. By the way, the misspelling
was
bothering
me so I replaced 'hucking' with 'chucking'... they didn't actually mean 'hucking'
did they?
So I called today and got some
more things set up for my Australia trip, and I'm booking my flight for it
tomorrow. I'm getting so excited. And I'm going to make out with 10
hott Australian boys just so I can have my 10 celebration before Katie does.
Muaha. I think I'll just make out with the entire Australian Floorball
Team (seen left) and beat you all. Damn-damn!
You Austin kids are so awesome.
I wish I could be more politically active, too. I just feel like I
wouldn't really have an impact, though. I sometimes wonder, if we wrote a
letter every day, to every single one of the Congressmen... would it really even
change the decisions they'd make. Sorry, if I'm being a downer... but I
dunno. It sounds really pessimistic, but that's how I feel about
government usually. It just seems so pointless. And it frustrates me
to no end that something that is so obviously wrong can be popular opinion.
And I've now decided that I'm too tired/sick/wasted to write anything coherent
on this subject. Sorry if the above didn't make any sen
se.
But on to the film noir/mobster movie! Yay! The story's shaping up very well, I just wish we could work out the kinks and get on to writing the damn thing. Motive-shmotive... just have him kill the guy! But I still think it's uber-cool that we can come up with this kind of stuff. I'm excited. Also excited about the library movies. Party at the library! Heck yes!
Well, will you look at that. 2 updates in one day. If you guys were still doing eprops/damn-damns I'd suggest docking me for being a spotlight whore. Still no Nostalgia page, but that will come all in good time. Right now, however, it's time for bed and some more yummy cold medicine. Gnight all!
4-25-05, 10:31am
Geez, you guys are demanding. I think I've built up you're expectations too much by updating so much lately. But seriously... I used to go months without updating. I think you can handle 5 days.
That being said, I'm fairly sure the world hates me. I'm sick, cold medicine is expensive, and I have no money. I haven't been sick all year, and this comes during a week when I have an extremely hard test and (to be old fashioned) woman troubles. Blah. That's how I feel. And I should be engaging in some (EXTREME!) studying right about now, but I really don't feel like it and I don't even think it would do much good. On a slightly better note, I think this overpriced cold medicine is starting to clear my congestion. So there's that.
Well,
the icky part of this post is over. I went to my Dad's this weekend, and
it was surprisingly stress-free. Apart from being sick for most of it.
And I actually got some work done. I also got to go to this extremely
fancy restaurant at the Gaylord Texan Resort out near Grapevine Mills Mall.
For those of you who don't know (and I doubt any of you will), the Gaylord
Resorts are a chain of hotel-resorts (surprise, surprise) that are few and far
between across the country. They're freakin' huge though. The hotel
is set up like a gigantic oval, with some of the rooms facing out, and some in.
And on the inside there's this huge courtyard, set up kind of like the riverwalk,
with a replica of the Alamo, gardens, and little restaurants tucked in the
corners. It's actually kind of cool, though I have no idea why they'd
build it in middle-of-nowhere Grapevine, Texas. Anyway, the restaurant we
went to is call Ama Lur, and it's a super trendy modern Mexican food place that
was delicious. Oh! When we were walking in, we also saw a golden,
living statue dressed as a cowboy, and I thought of Brandon and his pseudo
cowboy fetish. I thought it was funny.
Also, I wasn't aware that people besides my friends ever read this. Then I put an actual working guestbook up and apparently my sister and Tyler Morgan also read this stuff. Tyler Morgan, I found out, is the guy running rtm86.com, which I commented on in my last rant. Hi Tyler Morgan, if you're still reading this. I find it a little weird that other people can find this site, though. I designed it just to keep in touch with friends, really. I blame Kistie for putting me on Google.
You know something I hate? Writing sideways or upside down on Post-its. Maybe I'm just half-retarded like someone else we know (and I must be because I can't even find a picture of a sideways post-it note... or maybe no one takes pictures of post-its), but it happens to me all the time. And it bugs my OCD side a lot. A lot.
I'm quickly running out of meal plans. I have a grand total of 9 left right now I think. Maybe 8. But yeah, that has to last me another 17 days. So right now I'm hoarding food in my dorm room, eating Ramen, microwave ravioli and EasyMac (all of which lose their appeal VERY quickly after a few days). I think I may actually have to buckle and buy some more meals from the AggieCard office. That means I'll have to ask my parents for money. Boo.
Anyway, I'm gonna go try and sleep of this cold/flu/syphilis thing I have going on here. What, don't judge me. I'll post some more later, probably. No promises though.
4-20-05, 12:14am
I've decided I'm not going into more detail about this past weekend. It was awesome, and I had tons of fun. If you want to know more about what we did, see Ryan's site.
By popular demand and because Brandon's too lazy to visit them himself, I'm going to look at all the new sites I've put up in the randomnity section and tell you what's so awesome about them.
First of all, webbyawards.com is where I found out about all of these. All of the ones nominated are awesome, and I suggest you go vote because they provide links to all of the nominees and it's cool just to go through and see all the different sites.
day26.com
This is the site of a couple who have been keeping this photo journal since the
day they got married (June 26, 2003). Now I sound like a creepy stalker,
but it's all there on the site. Some of the photos are just of them
(presumably, I don't know! ugh, I'm too good at sounding like a stalker),
but others are really artsy and good. I haven't had time to sift through
all of them though, but the ones of the Sunset Strip in Hollywood looked really
cool (it's under April).
rtm86.com
This site just has a cool layout, plain and
simple. I wish I could have been this creative in making my website.
The photography section is also decent.
bookcrossing.com
The site itself is eh, but the concept I find
incredibly cool. To start with, someone takes a book that they've read and
really liked. They register it with the site and get a specific ID number
for it, which they then write on the inside cover of the book, along with the
URL. Then they leave it somewhere. A park bench, on a bus, at a
restaurant, wherever. Then the person who finds the book and reads it can
enter its ID on the site. The person who finds it and the person who's
book it was originally can track where it's been and who has it currently.
And then they can pass it on again in the same fashion. It seemed like a
really cool idea, and if I weren't such a packrat with my books, I might go
ahead and register some of mine. We should all do it this summer and see
what happens!
wordcount.org
This is the site where I found out the stats of
everyone's name. It's an amazing idea and I wish I knew how they tracked
this thing. You can search for a specific word or a specific number.
For instance, the 2007th word is 'enjoyed' and 'pariah' is the 49599th word (a
word which means 'social outcast'... much like Brandon who makes his friends
look up words so they'll "remember them." Ugh).
tenbyten.org
This is one I recently found, and I don't think it's even on the randomnity page
yet, but it's really awesome. It shows a square of 100 pictures (10x10)
that represent the most-talked about issues based on several international news
sources. With each picture, there are links to news stories and articles
about that subject. And what's awesome is that it changes hourly.
I've already looked up the one for my birthday last year, and it was really
awesome to see.
And that's all for sites for right now. I'm only halfway through the Webbys nominees though, so there should be more coming. And I'll post them here like those above as well as on the Randomnity page.
So tonight we went to a discussion program about religion that Brandon's roomate, Raymond, was putting on. It was very interesting comparing quotes from the different holy texts, but the discussions were a little slow. I wanted to go more in depth, but they had this thing where they didn't want to go 'beyond the scope' of the presentation, so a lot of questions were put aside. I kind of miss that sort of in depth discussion actually. I used to get it at least twice a week in my Human Situation honors English classes last year, where we'd read the Bhagavad Gita and St. Augustine and Plato and then just sit and talk. We'd discuss the role of evil in human nature, or what exactly motivates humanity as a whole to strive for good, or whether humans really are equal in all things... stuff like that. I say we have pretentious discussions about it on our pretentious museum day sometime. It'll be super fun.
My tests are done for now, at least until Thursday, when I get the review sheet for my next Microbiology test. Right now, I'm just enjoying the short lull by doing absolutely nothing when it comes to schoolwork. I refuse to admit that it's there.
Some of you have started to ask about the Nostalgia link on the sidebar over there <---, so I figured I'd say something about it. It's coming along, slowly but surely, and it's something I've had in the works for a while. Hopefully I'll get it all put together soon and publish it. Although maybe not until summer comes around, so we'll see.
That's it for now! More updates later!
4-18-05, 12:14am
So Brandon and Katie aren't talking to me anymore. Boo. On the bright side, however, this may cause the loss of more eprops. Yay!
Not much time to update, but I figured I'd write a couple words anyway. I have 2 tests back to back in 2 days and I haven't studied enough for them. I should be okay as long as I study all of tonight and tomorrow.
Had an amazing weekend in Austin... more on that later. I love hanging out with everyone there, you guys are awesome.
I found some cool sites, which will be added to the Randomnity section when I get the time. You should all check them out. One worth mentioning is wordcount.org. It tracks how often each word in the English language is used and numbers them according to how often they're used. 'The' is the number one word, and weirdly enough, 'conquistador' is the word they have as last. I don't know how it tracks all of this, but it's interesting. On the site, I did a search of our names and this is what came up:
Katherine wins as being the most
used of us (if you know what I mean) at 6583; before her is 'lifestyle' and
after is 'tutor'
Ryan is a close second at 7458; he's surrounded by 'charities' and 'startled'
Katie is next at 11833; she's surrounded by 'tread' and 'shuddered'
Veronica at 13274; surrounded by 'plural' and 'jose'... haha
Brandon at 20079 (whoop!-ish); surrounded by 'soot' and 'objectors'
I'm not on the list, but Leanne is at 31576 and Leah is at 37548
Kistenmacher isn't on there for some reason... nor is Kistie. He loses.
Well, that's about it for now. I'm off to do another hour of horrible, terrible, icky, no good physics problems and then maybe reward myself with a little Chronicles of Narnia, which I borrowed from Brandon. I'm tired of not having a book to read. I can't wait until summer when I can read everything I want to.
4-12-05, 11:19pm
Oooh, only 2 minutes away from
updating exactly 24 hours after my last post. That's amazing.
Considering I used to update only once or twice a month. Yeah.
Everyone probably missed that update, though, seeing as I forgot to put an
update on the main page. Oops. Won't happen again. (I lie,
it's almost certain that it will happen again... in fact, I was thinking about
not ever updating the main page and letting you guys figure it out on your
own... muaha)
I considered not updating. Ryan says he's going to keep giving me damn-damns as long as I keep updating. Ughll. Seriously, I was losing them so fast when I wasn't trying... now I try and lose them and look what happens. Hoes. And when I say hoes, I'm saying that you are rusty garden equipment, not women of the night. That's right I said it! (Wow, it's been a long time since I used that Brandon/Katie quote...)
Anyway, I'm slightly woozy still from giving blood earlier tonight. I always forget how weird it feels that whole day after you donate. It's not bad, just a little weird. It took forever to go through the process, though. The lady asking me the questions seemed to relish the fact that she could ask me these ultra personal, ultra embarrassing questions and so took as she could to get through them. Can you imagine having to answer yes to some of those questions...
"Have
you ever received money drugs or any other form of payment for sex?" "Does
Diet Coke count?"
"Have you ever had sex with someone who had been to Africa?" "Well...
there was this monkey, see..."
"Have you been out of the country in the past 6 months?" "Only on my drug
runs."
"Do you have Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease." "Not that I know of..."
(accompanied by the Katie-wink)
After I got poked with a needle, though, we all went to this really cool program at Lechner. It was all about the objectification (is that even a word? I'm woozy!) of women in advertising, the standards that are set in advertisements for both genders, and how that affects our daily life. It was very good and the woman presenting was cool. I kind of want to take a class from her, but I have absolutely no room in my schedule... believe me, I'm OCD and have planned out the semesters that I have left (only 4 semesters left! How crazy is that? Yeah, Ryan's parentheses use is apparently contagious...)
Ok, time to (attempt to) lose some
eprops/damn-damns. First off, I've decided that Prozac and I are going to
crash
Ataris half birfday party. Prozac's already pissed that he didn't get one
(I told him it was Ryan's fault). Also, does anyone else find it funny
that Ryan's the one keeping track of his fish's birthday and not me?
Loser! Oh, and I hate tacos... I hate all Mexican food really. I
think it's the bastard child of the food genres that tries to look cool, but
everyone just ends up pitying in the end. Kind of like Brandon.
Eh, I'm too tired to come up with anything better right now, so that'll have to do.
I probably shouldn't be insulting, though. I feel bad about it now, sitting through that lecture on how society is built around tearing down the individual, and how we don't help matters much. Eh, when I'm not so wasted, I'll write a post affirming all of you in your perfectness (and yes, I still maintain that perfectness is better than perfection. If you don't like it, dock my eprops, biatch).
And in closing, I'd just like to say that Ryan is a sicko and I hate him forever. That's it.
4-11-05, 11:17pm
Well, I thought I might as well continue my new trend of updating every day. Even though I have nothing of consequence to put here.
I got a new picture for the main page. Much nicer than the last, I think.
I want to go to Austin this weekend! I'll probably call/IM/email one of you Austin kids to see what's going on, and if it's a good weekend to come or not. I dunno, I just want to make it up there to hang out one more time before finals, and this is looking to be the only weekend I can.
For those of you who don't know yet... B, K, K, and I all have a new favorite song. You must go out and download the Numa Numa video, (the actual song is called "Dragostea Din Tei," but that doesn't matter). Katie says that she wants the dancing guys hot hot body, and we all agreed that she should make out with him to gain some ground in the slut competition. All of them ended up dancing along with him for about an hour. It was great fun. Go watch the video and picture Brandon doing the eyebrow thing. You'll see.
I
cannot wait until summer! Last weekend when Kistie came up, I kept
thinking about how awesome summer is going to be this year, and now that I've
gotten back to working for classes... I just want this semester to be over.
While it's been fun hanging out and all, classwise this semester has sucked.
Big time. And besides, once summer's here, that means I get to go to
Australia! Where I will find hot Australian boys with accents and lose my
supervirginity. What the heck, I'll bring back hot Australian boys for all
of you, to make up for the dinky keychains I got you last time.
Oh, and my new goal is to
accumulate the least e-props/damn-damns of anyone, including Gosha. I seem
to be so good at losing them anyway, I figure why not go with it? So, on
that note... eprops and damn-damns are stupid, probably stupider than Katie's
ranking system. My websites black background
is way hotter than Brandon's black background will ever be... and it smells
better too. I think dinosaurs are just a myth, and all people who believe
in them are ignorant sluts. Lord of the Rings is overrated. In fact,
who wastes they're time on movies anyway? Losers who don't have real
lives, that's who. I'm allergic to cashews. And Tina Fey.
People with birthdays in March and September should seriously just drop off the
face of the Earth. No one likes them anyway. Veronica Mars is a
no-talent slag. Seth and Summer are going to die in a fiery boating
accident, which is good, because they got on my nerves anyway. Almost as
much as Sandie and Kristen did. Sin City is probably the worst comic book
movie I've ever seen. The Hulk was so much better. No one wants Anna
Nicole Smith's body. Junebugs are gross and nasty, and anyone who
touches/names/looks at/kisses them is too. Sly Stalone is totally awesomer
than Steven Segal... totally.
Yeah, I think that'll be enough for now.
4-11-05, 12:27am
So yay for the new format. It's taking forever to get all of that pages changed, but I like it better. And I must say my news sidebar is much more artsy. I like it. I was going to make them animated and all cool like, but it turns out that I suck at Photoshop, so that didn't happen. Apparently Amy's really good at it though, and she says she's going to teach me.
So I was looking back at my Best of 2004 movies and I thought I should update it a bit. I'm too lazy to actually move everything around and add new movies... so I'll just update it here. I've now seen Sideways, Million Dollar Baby, Finding Neverland, Closer, and Hotel Rwanda. Oddly enough, the one that won the Best Picture Oscar isn't going on my list. Hm. Which, sadly, means that Kill Bill 2, Mean Girls, Spiderman 2, and The Passion are being kicked off of the list. Oh well. So the order now goes:
1. Garden State
2. Eternal Sunshine
3. The Incredibles
4. Hotel Rwanda
5. Closer
6. Finding Neverland
7. Aviator
8. Shaun of the Dead
9. Shrek 2
10. Sideways
So that's that. And no more bringing up the issue of Garden State vs. Eternal Sunshine. Talk about a dead horse.
That's it for now... didn't write a longer rant, because I was busy reformatting and fixing the links on the mainpage. More updates later!
4-10-05, 3:13 am
Ha, fooled you, no? You thought the whole site had changed? Psh. It'll take a lot more time than that. But it will all be changed soon enough. I decided the site needs a new look. The old one is starting to bore me. As you can see, I've already started playing around with the main page and with my (completely legal and not at all pirated, I swear...) version of Photoshop. I hope that I can get some cool animated links and stuff. But we'll see... Photoshop is confusing as hell. It literally took me an hour to figure out how to make the image on the front page and how to convert it so that I could use it with FrontPage.
So, I have a new roommate now.
I thought that it was going to be a bit of a pain to readjust to living with
someone else again, but it really hasn't been bad at all. I kind of like
having a roommate again. Her name's Amy, and she's a really cool girl.
We stayed up late the night before last talking and we have a lot in common,
which is exciting. Even though I'll only be her roommate for another month
or so. I also met her past roommate, who lives two doors down.
Cuh-razy! Seriously, she got my suitemate to ask me to come talk to her at
midnight one night. She was talking online to Amy, who was at her
boyfriends place, and their conversation went something like this (I was reading
over her shoulder creepily at the time... I thought it was called for):
Cuh-Razy42: You told me you were moving out 2 weeks ago.
CoolAmy: I thought I was. I had to get everything approved.
Cuh-Razy42: Well, I've already thrown all of your stuff into a pile on the
floor
CoolAmy: Why'd you do that?
Cuh-Razy42: I needed the space.
CoolAmy: Okay... I'll be over to pick it up tomorrow or the next day.
Cuh-Razy42: That's what you said last week
Cuh-Razy42: I'm gonna go talk to Leann now (yes, she misspelled my name...
I'm a little bitter)
CoolAmy: Okay
Cuh-Razy42: Do you have a problem with that?
CoolAmy: No. Should I?
Cuh-Razy42: Probably, because I am a crazy bia who will steal your soul
while you sleep.
Okay, so maybe the last part wasn't in there. But still, I was amazed at how bitchy she could be over AIM. I mean, that takes talent. I try to be bitchy to the people I talk to over AIM all the time, but somehow they still talk to me and think we're friends.
On
a weird side note... my spell check redlined CoolAmy, but not Cuh-Razy42...
weird.
Ryan told me today that he wrote enough on his website to choke a T-Rex. I agreed with him at the time, but I was thinking about it, and I'm just not so sure anymore. Now, I'm no dinosaur expert, so maybe Bra-bra or Ve-ve can help me out with this one. Just how much would it take to choke a T-Rex? Inquiring minds want to know. Plus I found this hilarious picture of a choking T-Rex, and had to put it up here...
Film Festival is finally over, thank God. I'm really not sure if I want to be a part of it next year. It was a lot of work without any significantly awesome outcome. I was kind of disappointed. And I'm not sure if I'll have time next semester. Especially if the first step in our plan for world domination happens and we end up running LAC (Literary Arts Committee for all of you uncivilized heathens who don't know).
I love my computer. Love.
I'm going to disobey all reason, run away, and get married to it. Can you
do that? It's
so much better than sitting in the freezing library, crammed in between 15 other
nosy people who glare at you when you laugh or type loud or breath.
Although I did find out that the library closes at midnight. Seriously,
what kind of students do they think are at this college? How do they
expect people to get to the library to study when the bars close at 2am?
Not that I would know anything about that...
Anyway, the reason that I was without a computer for nearly 2 weeks... The night after I was done with Film Festival, I was going to go home and update, seeing as I'd neglected to for so long. So I turn on my computer (it had been randomly shutting down for a while, I think it does it when it overheats) and the screen doesn't come on. I hear the windows startup music, but there's no screen. Then I look closely and you can just make out the outline of stuff on the screen. Turns out the backlight had gone out and needed to be replaced. And I had to send it in to some remote repair center, because College Station is the prime example of Boondocks, Texas, and doesn't have one. Technology is the debil!
Tonight we went to Freudian Slip
(by we, I mean Brando, Katherine, Kyle, Raymond and I... no Katie, since she's
off getting lost in downtown Houston). It was great, although they
refrained from taking some of the funnier suggestions because it was Parents'
Weekend. Boo them. Who cares? We're in college now.

When we came back, we ended up playing the old Mac version of Oregon Trail....
which is super-cool and retro. The graphics are so cheesy! The sad
thing, though, is that we tried 3 times and couldn't make it to Oregon.
All 5 of us died each time. Granted, we were only half-caring, but
still... this is a game for 3rd graders. As Brandon said, "Third grade is
dangerous when you're not in it."
Well, I'm being completely boring and not-funny. So I'll end here for tonight and update some more tomorrow.
